The Story of Isaiah

Growing up in a low-income household in Denver, Colorado, I became very well-versed in figuring things out independently. Since the neighborhood kids didn't really care for sci-fi and Rudy Ray Moore movies like I did, it was up to me to remake cinematic classics as I saw fit!

For three years straight, I would go out and recreate scenes from "Disco Godfather," "Petey Wheatstraw: The Devil's Son in Law," and "Quantum Leap" (1989). With the technical genius of an 11-year-old with a Motorola Razr, I was able to craft terribly made cinematic masterpieces. This is where my obsession for storytelling and movie-making would blossom into a lifelong love for creative endeavors. This creative freedom would soon be a memory once I turned 14 and had to move in with my grandparents. I went from a community of people who looked like me and empowered my confidence to create, to a new, more upper-class group of people who not only didn't look like me but never hesitated to remind me of this difference.

I'm not going to take the "the world is cruel" route. I will instead go the "This made me a stronger creative" route. This new change in environment not only forced me to overcome adversity but it made me truly create from my own perspective, not just recreate what I saw. This inspired me to create music and craft my own music videos. This not only refined my video editing but also garnered me a small following of people who just loved my videos! After barely surviving high school, I would take on a new challenge as a college student at MSU where I would finally meet other creatives who would challenge me and empower me to grow in my craft as a newly discovered filmmaker. Unfortunately, MSU didn't offer film degrees, so I went with my second love, Multimedia Graphic Design. Fresh out of college, I knew I wanted to tell stories and scenes. I didn't get lucky by having a big-time producer uncle in the film industry. I had a lot of catching up and networking to do, so I did just that: I GOT BUSY. Within my first year of leaving college, I was able to get a job as a co-Film instructor. I was selected for the First Time Filmmaker Fellowship from Allstate's OneLove, won PictureParty's photography competitions, and received a creative writing grant. All these accomplishments helped me to secure my first "big boy job" at Starz Entertainment as a QC reviewer and then Production Specialist. From there, I could only grow, and now I am a creator who is thirsty to grow and create even more!
